Dear Debra,
I really like a guy that is part of the local senior center. He lost his wife a year ago and I lost my husband about the same time. He doesn’t seem to even notice me and I don’t want to be forward, but I would like to get to know him more.
Any suggestions?
Regards, Monica, East Providence
Dear Monica,
It’s hard when you like someone and you only see them when they are part of a group. It sounds like there are a lot of women at the senior center, which makes it hard to vie for his attention. I would recommend that you try to single him out and start a one on one conversation with him. Maybe you could invite him out to the local coffee shop. Most men will be happy to have a woman take the lead and ask them out. It always takes confidence and chutzpah! During your coffee date ask him what he is interested in and perhaps you can meet again and enjoy your shared interest. It could be enjoying a local folk singer at a Sunday brunch, going to a lecture at the local library or attend a free dance class offered at the local YMCA. Having fun while getting to know someone will draw you closer together.
Enjoy and have fun!
