Thinking about a new love in your life? First, fall in love with yourself, said Debra L’Heureux, owner of Somerset-based Get Ready to Date.
L’Heureux, who through her business has helped hundreds of people move on to new relationships after divorce or the loss of a spouse, offers a variety of services including weekly coaching sessions, a Widow’s Lunch Club and a 12-week virtual Conscious Dating Program. Her clients, who are mostly over 50, don’t know where to begin or what to do first, she said.
“One of the things I do is help people fall in love with themselves,” she added. “And that takes time, especially after divorce.”
Widows, as well, have a hard time moving on to a new love because they often have to forgive themselves first for living on after the loss of a spouse. “They need to give themselves permission to date,” said L’Heureux.
What’s also holding the over-50 crowd from finding love: the comfort of staying stuck in the place they are now. “Dating is an adventure and if they’re stuck, they don’t want to move forward. It can be very difficult,” she said.
As part of her Conscious Dating Program, L’Heureux said she helps people essentially develop a blueprint to take them from an unconscious level to a conscious level of dating. Using an ice cream sundae as an analogy to conscious dating, L’Heureux’s approach is to help her clients assess their requirements (the ice cream), their needs (the topping) and their wants (the cherry on top)…
