Dear Debra,
My wife always picked out my clothes and now that she is gone….honestly I am lost! I want to start casually dating but I don’t where to begin to pick out an outfit that is considered smart casual.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Hello Bill,
Thank you for sharing your vulnerabilities with me! It can be very difficult to navigate your closet after what sounds like a long term marriage. Everyone depends on their spouse in one way or another and for you; it sounds like you let your late wife take care of your attire.
There are a few suggestions that I have for you.
The first one is that you already know what clothes you are comfortable wearing. These will become your “go-to” clothing articles. Make sure that you send your shirts and pants to a reputable dry cleaner, so that your clothes look their best. There is nothing worse than wrinkled clothes. Women do notice those things!
The second recommendation that I have is that you lay your currently wardrobe out and put shirts and pants together on a hanger. Look at how the pieces look together. You can even have some fun and ask a daughter or granddaughter to come over and play fashionista with you! Girls love clothes and they will probably be tickled pink to help you.
Third piece of advice is to hire a personal shopper. She will sit down with you, learn your preferred style and even go shopping with you!
This is a time of change in your life. Be patient with yourself and know that clothes do make the man-so take the time and effort to invest in yourself. Most of all….have fun!
